Abstract
333,457. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Ipsen, C. L., and Otis, A. N.). Oct. 23, 1028, [Convention date]. Resistance furnaces. - The heating element consists of a metallic ribbon arranged in a number of sets of loops on an elongated frame, successive sets of loops being connected at the middle of the frame and the sides alternatively. The frame consists of side members 21, 21a connected by bolts 23 and insulating bars 22. The ribbon 20 is supported in notches, in the bars 22. Upright members 27 secured to the members 21, 21a support bars 28 of insulating material which secure the ribbon in place. Longitudinal displacement of the. ribbon is prevented by pieces 34, 35 secured to it and to the terminal pieces 32, 33, the pieces 34, 35 being too large to pass through the slots in the end bar 22. The heating- element is supported on bars 18 in a lagged chamber 10, and can be inserted and withdrawn through an opening with an insulating closure 15. A wire-cloth conveyer 19 passes through the chamber above the heating-element being supported at its edges on angle-irons 19a.
