Couplings, a u to - matic. - In an automatic coupling for railway vehicles each coupling comprises a pivoted coupling - element 1 with a doublehooked end, a supporting member 2 therefor pivotal about the same axis 3 as the coupling-element 1, and an adjustable abutment 7 arranged to take the thrust of the supporting-member and determine the normal position thereof. As shown, the member 2 is adapted to bear against a screw 5 adjustable in the part 7. A shackle 4 pivoted to the support 2 is arranged in its forward position to secure the hooks in their coupled position, and in a rear position to engage a lug 8 on the element 1 for limiting the upward deflection of the latter when a coupling is being effected.
