Abstract

332,083. Ayre, A. L., and Ayre, W. Aug. 7, 1929. Addition to 299,184. Rudders.-A ship's rudder of the kind descrihed in the parent Specification is formed with upper and lower vertical plates which are set above and below the propeller axis at a constant angle with the mid-axis of the rudder. The rudder is formed with plates 11, 12 attached to a stock 5 so as to make an angle, alpha with the mid-axis a, a, the upper plate being oppositely disposed to the lower plate and both being supported by a middle bracket 7a, 7b. The plates may be terminated at the rudder stock axis or may cross mid-way and terminate on either side thereof as indicated. The setting of the angle is such that the plate approximates in direction to the mean direction of the propeller race. Specifications 299,184 and 332,082 are referred to.
