Abstract

331,742. Ezbelent Fils. May 8, 1929, [Convention date]. Pleating.- Relates to a machine in which means are provided to ensure that the covering portion a', b of a pleat shall as shown in Fig. 3 be of the correct size and not as in Fig. 2 be affected by the changing in size of the pleat and consists in the provision of means for obtaining during the complete stroke of the knives a variable throw of a pivot on a link connected to the knives or to the pleat setting drums. The pivot is moved to and from the position of the connection between the knives or pleating drums and the linkage operating same. As shown in Figs. 4 and 7 the knives 2. reciprocate in a slideway 6 in the framing 7. An axle 4 connects the knives to the link 10 moved by links 20, 18, and a cam track 17 from the shaft 16. A cam 15 operates a roller on a spring pressed arm 13 pivoted at 14 and provided at its end with a slide 11 having a slot 11a in which is engaged the link 10, the slide being thereby capable of sliding on the link 10. The slide has an axle 12 pivoted on the arm 13. The throw of the knives is proportional to the distance between the axles 4 and 12 so that the size of pleats is determined by the amplitude of the movement of the slide 11 along the link. This amplitude in turn is determined by the position of stops 23 on a pattern wheel 24, which stops engage stepped surfaces 23 on an extension of the spring pressed arm 13.
