[Class 97 (iii).] In a pattern-grading machine, particularly for marking or cutting out boot and shoe patterns, a table carrying the model pattern or the material to form the graded pattern is rectilinearly moved by pantographic mechanism connecting it to a rectilinearly movable guide or beam along which move two carriages connected by pantographic mechanism and carrying respectively a feeler and a scriber and/or punch. In the form shown a beam 3 with a transverse arm 3a is adapted to run on rollers 4 on tracks 1, 2 carried by the bedplate 20. A carriage 5 carrying a reciprocating punch 29 and scriber 31 and a carriage 6 carrying the feeler 42 run along the beam 3 and are connected together by pantographic linkage 15, 10. The link 15 is pivoted at 16 to the carriage 5 and at 14 to a slide 12 which may be clamped by screw 13 in a position corresponding to the enlargement or reduction desired on a graduated arcuate part 10a of the link 10. The latter is pivoted at 11 to the carriage 6 and has an end portion sliding in a diametrical bore in a pivot pin 9 rotatably mounted on a curved extension 8 of the beam 3. The model pattern 46 is supported on a circular plate 43 which may be rotated on the table 26 and secured in desired position by the engagement of a spring stop 45 with notches 44 in the plate 43. The table 26 moves by means of rollers 28 along tracks 27 fixed to the bedplate 20 and is connected to the beam 3 by pantographic linkage 24, 18. The pivot 17 corresponding to the pivot 9 and the pivot 19 corresponding to the pivot 11 are mounted on the arm 3a of the beam 3 and the bedplate 20 respectively. The scriber 31 marks cardboard or the like mounted on the fixed table 32 and the material cut by the punch 29 is clamped by screws 40 between a plate 39 and carriage 37 which may be adjusted along the fixed track 36. In a modification the table 26 mav be fixed and the table 32 movable and connected by links to the beam 3. The punch 29 and scriber 31 may be removable.
