Abstract

278,828. Baron, L. B. July 30, 1926. Cigarette-making machines.-In a continuousrod cigarette machine in which the rod is cut by means of a knife 14 set or curved to follow the movement of the rod during the cutting operation, the rod is supported during the cutting operation by members 19 on the outer end of a pivoted arm 16, which is actuated to cause the support to move with the knife during the cutting operation. As shown in Fig. 3, the arm 16 is rocked on its pivot 17 by means of a rod 27 having a pin-andslot connection with the arm 16 and sliding in a bracket 29 on the frame 1; a roller 26 on the end of the rod 27 engages in a cam track 25 in the face of a disc 24 on the shaft 10 of a rotary body 13 carrying the knife 14. The members 19 on the arm 16 are spaced apart for the passage of the knife and are recessed to engage and support the cigarette rod. The severed cigarettes pass along a channel 45 to a conveyer 46. In a modification, Fig. 7, motion is imparted to the arm 16 by means of a connecting-rod 41 pivotally connected to a crank pin 35 on an adjustable slipper 36 in a channel in a disc 38. The shaft of the disc 38 is driven from a pinion 44 on the shaft 10 of the rotary knife. Specification 263,409 is referred to.
