Axle-stops.-A star wheel d, engaged by the front axle of a truck, is coupled at excessive speed by a claw clutch B<2> to a cam B<3> which throws up a lever e and hook a so as to engage the rear axle, the hook being connected to a steel band, rope, or wire b acted on by an adjustable brake c. The band may be wound on a drum controlled by brake shoes. The speed at which the clutch operates is adjusted by a spring carried by a disc B'.
