Abstract

285,962. Schuetz, T. J. Nov. 22, 1926. Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-Comprises braking mechanism for the rear end of the propeller shaft in which a substantially arc-shaped bracket 11 fastened to the rear axle casing is provided with a pivot pin 10 for brake shoes 9 engaging a drum 7 on the propeller shaft. The bracket 11 may fit, as shown, against a horizontal face of the rear axle casing, or. against a vertical face. The brake shoes are operated by a hand lever through rods 35, 32, a bell-crank lever 26 pivoted at 25 on the bracket 11, link 36 and a floating lever 37. The lever 37 is connected at 38 to one shoe and at 40 to a rod 39 passing through a fixed eye 41 carried by an auxiliary bracket and an eye 42 on the second shoe. A main release spring 30 is provided, and springs 44, 45 on the rod respectively extend between the eyes 42, 41 and the eye 41 and a collar on the rod. A nut 46 provides for spring adjustment.
