Abstract

330,979. Standard Telephones & Cables, Ltd., and Snell, M. S. March 22, 1929. Counters actuated by electric and magnetic means.-A counter, particularly for use as a telephone meter, comprises two frames adapted to be secured together end to end, one frame supporting the magnet and the other the counting- mechanism. The magnet frame 15 is extended at 22 to support the lower edge of the armature 9 which is controlled by a spring 5 adjustably anchored to the toothed extension 36 of the counter frame. The armature is limited in movement by engagement of an arm 38 at its upper end with a recess in the counter frame. The magnet core is adjustably secured by a fixing screw 21 and is reduced and threaded at one end for mounting the meter on a supporting frame. The counter frame 39 supporting the numeral and transfer wheels 1, 3 is preferably a die-casting, and the actuating pawl 7 pivoted to the armature at 8 is bent as shown at 41 to abut against the frame to prevent overthrow. The whole of the counting-mechanism is enclosed by a removable sheet-metal cover. This is cut at 20 and turned up to form a window and the turnedup part may serve to support a number plate 50. The window is covered with transparent material held in place by punched-out tabs.
