Date indicators. - An instrument for determining the date by means of solar shadows consists of a suitably-graduated arcuate scale C, mounted in a frame B, on which is adjustably fixed a shadow - throwing device A. The apparatus may be mounted in a chamber, to which a ray of light is admitted through a slit. In use, the device is fixed with the gnomon A south of the scale C, the date being indicated at noon on any particular day by the position of the shadow on the scale.
