Elastic stockings; limb binders.-In a knitted stocking for varicose veins of the type comprising an opening for the heel surrounded by a zone B, D, G, F, E of double thickness, this zone has the form of a quarter of a sphere or an ellipsoid, bounded by two rectangular planes. The front and rear faces 1, 2 of the leg of the stocking are knitted by the two needle rows of a rectilinear machine, the stitches of the front face are removed and mounted on a comb, and two tubular bands are knitted, with half the needles, on the lines B, D. The two thicknesses of the bands are connected by rows of stitching and the bands are joined along the lines D, G and E, F. The knitting of the foot is then commenced along the line E, B, C.
