Abstract

330,124. Seaborne, A. B., and Bacon, A. R. May 24, 1929. Exhaust - silencers.- The exhaust gas, steam or air is discharged from a pipe c into a nozzle a whence it passes through tangential slots a<2> into liquid in a chamber b. The chamber has an inlet b<1> and outlets b<2>, and is completely submerged in the liquid which may be water or oil. The exhaust receives a rotary movement which is imparted to the liquid and the centrifugal force set up tends to facilitate the discharge of the mixed exhaust and liquid through the outlets b<2> and the entry of fresh liquid through the inlet b<1>. A flange a<3> on the nozzle is held by bolts c<2> betweeen the chamber b and a flange c' on, the pipe r. The liquid may be rotated by paddles and the exhaust introduced near the centre of the rotating mass.
