Spindle apparatus.-In apparatus for doubling yarns and for twisting roving or sliver to form a single yarn, a rotatable ring 12 provided with a yarn guide 14 is mounted in the same plane as an outer ring 8, and interposed bells 11 serve as a support for the ring 12 and as the frictional drag to effect the winding-on, which is varied by loading the ring 12 with weighting washers 16 carried by pins 15. The washers 16 are provided with elongated holes 17, to engage the pins and initially they lag behind the ring until one or the other of the ends of the holes, according as the spindle is rotating twist or weft way, engage the pins.
