Abstract
329,751. Tyrer, D., and Imperial Chemical Industries, Ltd. March 23, 1929. Cooling discharged materials.- In the cooling of coke with simultaneous production of water gas, the hot coke is charged into a shaft 1 fitted at its lower end with a water-spray 4, the steam produced rising through the hotter zones of the coke column and reacting with the upper layers to form water gas. The cooled coke is removed continuously through the valve 5 and the water gas generated passes off through a conduit 6 fitted with a valve 7; when the coke has cooled down to a temperature at which the water gas reaction no longer takes place, the valve 7 is closed and a valve 8 on a steam offtake pipe 9 opened. Alternatively the water gas and steam may be withdrawn together and the mixture supplied to a water gas generator. Specification 2020/01 is referred to.
