Pistions; balancing laterally.-The diameter of a piston is varied by means of a segment C of the skirt, axially adjustable on inclined guides D, and secured by a stud 4 passing through a lug I on the segment C and screwing into a web G in the piston head; the parts G, I being spaced by shims M. Studs J secured in the segment C pass through slots in the guides D and are clamped by nuts L. The piston head is strengthened by ribs N, and ribs P extend to the gudgeon-pin bosses O.
