Abstract
328,917. Seddon, G. A., and Seddon, E. S. Feb. 2, 1929. Road-traffic signals on vehicles. -Relates to signalling devices of the type having a closed casing a with a stencil front b and a fixed substantially vertical lighting surface c to the rear of the stencil, and consists in providing no glass .backing for the stencil b and in setting back the lighting surface c so as not to reflect ordinary external light. A usual distance to set back the lighting surface will be equal to about twice the width of the widest stencil opening. In another form the reflecting surface is formed by the white-enamelled back of the casing. The lamp a may throw its light on the front or back of the translucent screen c. The stencil may be backed with a sheet of black perforated material. In a form suitable for charabancs, the casing is formed in two parts, the front part carrying the stencil and spaced reflector being secured by bolts to the rear part in which the light is housed.
