326,707. Victaulic Co., Ltd., and Johnson, P. G. May 10, 1929. Joint-making packing.-In a packing-ring for pipes of the kind described in Specification 149,381, [Class 99 (i), Pipes and tubes, Joints &c. for], the inner edges 3<a> of the flexible lips 3 of the ring are connected by a series of crosspieces 6, formed integral with the ring and spaced around the lips at regular intervals, so as to prevent the lips from being forced outwardly by the, internal fluid-pressure. The invention is also applicable to a ring having reinforcing ribs 7, as described in Specification 264,095, in which case the cross-pieces 6 are preferably arranged to coincide and be integral with a transverse rib at regular intervals round the ring. The back 1 of the ring may be stiffened by thickening or by a metallic filling.
