326,652. Brookes, N. E., (Commonwealth Steel Co.). March 1, 1929. Underframing of bodies.-In an underframe for a railway vehicle comprising a one-piece casting the underframe is adapted to be supported on pivoted bogies and comprises end sills 1, 2, draught sills 7 between the end sills and bolsters 3, and centre sills 6 between the bolsters 3 and spaced farther apart than the draught sills 7. A centre transom 4 and side sills 5 are provided and vertical webs 8 from the end sill 1 form with draught sills 7 a pocket for the buffing elements 9. The centre sills 6 are provided with brackets 11, 12 for mounting the air brake cylinder 10, and downwardly extending brackets 13 are provided for the brake rigging levers, other brackets 14, 15 also being provided for this purpose. Centre-plate members 16 are provided on the bolsters 3 adapted to co-operate with the centre-plates of the bogies and flanges 17 are provided on the bolsters to form side-bearings. The brackets 6, centre-plate bearings, &c. may be bolted to the structure.
