Abstract

324,470. Birkigt, M. Nov. 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Joint-making packing.-In an internal-combustion engine wherein the cylinder a is screwed into a jacket b, the joint c between the parts comprises a packing-ring of bellows form with elastically-deformable, plane bearing-surfaces engaging the cylinder and jacket respectively. The packing is made by turning or spinning spring steel. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the packing is of N-shape with end plane surfaces c. A number of N-shaped elements may be combined. Similarly M-shaped elements, single or multiple. may be used. Any number of bands may be provided as shown in Fig. 9. One or more, U-shaped elements may be used. A construction with extended bearing surface is shown in Fig. 14.
