Abstract

Gas meters.-In a dry gas meter in which the passage of gas to and from the measuring chambers is controlled by valves of the Watt type, the capacity of the meter is increased by using four, six or more valves. Fig. 2 shows a meter with four valves 2, 2<a>, 2b, 2<c> moved over their grids 3 by a crank shaft rotated from the flag wires of the bellows in the usual way. The exhaust ports of the several valves all communicate with an annular exhaust passage 10 opening into the exhaust pipe 11. Where the valves are arranged to work in parallel series as in Fig. 2, a three-throw crank is used, two of the arms 4<a> and 4b being at 180‹ and connected to valves 2a and 2<b> at each side of the central partition 12, whilst the remaining arm (at 94‹ to the other two) is connected to the valves 2 and 2<c>. Where the valves are operated from a single crank so as to work in diametrically opposite pairs, special conduits are provided in order that the corresponding valves should communicate with the same chamber.
