323,680. Sowden, F. H. May 16, 1929. Delivery apparatus. - In drop-sheet delivery apparatus for printing-machines comprising endless-tapes 1 on a reciprocating carriage 4, an auxiliary set of tapes 17 is mounted on the carriage between the main tapes so as to receive the sheet therefrom and deliver it to the pile 15<x>. The tapes 1 pass around rollers 3, 5 mounted on the carriage 4, and rollers 2, 6 mounted in the framing 9, the roller 2 being continuously rotated so as to move the upper run of the tapes 1 towards the pile 15<x>. An additional set of tapes 17 shorter than and arranged between the tapes 1 are carried by pulleys 18, 19 on the carriage, the shaft of the pulley being coupled by reductiongearing 20 to the shaft of the roller 5. The speed of the carriage 4 is the same as that of the tapes 1 so that on the forward movement of the carriage to take a sheet from the printing cylinder, the tapes 1 and roller 5 and therefore the tapes 17 are not moved relatively to the carriage. On the return stroke, however, the tapes 17 are moved relatively to the carriage by the gearing 20 so as to unroll from beneath the first sheet and deposit it on the pile 15x, and to take the succeeding sheet from the tapes 1. The upper runs of the tapes 17 are slightly above those of the tapes 1 which are inclined downwardly slightly towards the tapes 17. The carriage 4 runs on rollers 7 and is reciprocated by links 15 attached to endless chain-and-sprocket mechanisms 16 driven from the roller 2 or by lever-and-link mechanism.
