Abstract
678,157. Feeding sheets. FORD, R. M., and FORD, Ltd., F. R. May 31, 1949 [May 31, 1948], No. 14599/48. Class 100 (i). [Also in Group XXIV] A sheet-feeding device particularly for rotary mirrorscript duplicators, is constructed with one or more friction separating rollers 50 mounted in a casing 54, Fig. 3, provided with a handle 68 by means of which the rollers may be lifted out of their normal position resting on a pile of sheets 12. The sheets are carried by a table 38 mounted on a frame which is fitted with rollers 16 moving in vertical guides, and the table is raised as the sheets are fed by a lever 17, 19 which is rotated slowlv in a clockwise direction by a cam 70 which is advanced intermittently by a cam 26 on a shaft 79 and lever- and-link mechanism 28, 30, 31 controlling pawl-and-ratchet mechanism 32, 33 geared by reduction gearing 35, 36 to a gear 37 which drives the cam 20 through a freewheel device. The rubber friction rollers 50 are carried by a shaft 51, Fig. 5, mounted in a yoke 52, and are driven by free-wheel sprocket gearing 63, 64, 65, 66 from an oscillating shaft 55 operated by lever-and-link mechanism 70, 71, 73, 74, 75 and a cam 78 on the cam shaft 79. The pile is controlled by adjustable side guides 40 to which are pivotally connected members 43 carrying mountings 46 for pads which bear frictionally on the side edges of the pile. The separated sheets are moved over a plate 48 on the machine frame, and pass between an upper freely mounted roller 96, and an oscillating driven lower roller 97 carried by levers 98 which are in their lower position as the sheets reach the rollers, so that the sheets are halted as they engage between the roller 96 and stops 103 which are spring-raised. The stops 103 register with grooves 102 in the roller 97, and as this roller is raised the stops are received in the grooves and the sheet is advanced in timed register. The casing 54, Fig. 5, of the rollers 50 is normally connected to a sleeve 60 on its drive shaft by means of pin 59, but can be moved axially against the action of a spring 56 to disconnect its driving connection with the shaft 55 for adjusting the position of the rollers 50 according to the initial height of the pile. The casing can also be lifted during running of the machine by means of the handle 68 whereupon the freewheel device driving the pile-raising cam 20 is put out of action by a brake device (see Group XXIV) automatically actuated by the raising of the rollers.
