Abstract

417,952. Sheet-delivery apparatus. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and DANIELS, F. K., Vickers House, Broadway, Westminster. April 26, 1933, No. 12202. [Class 100 (i).] In a sheet delivery or piling apparatus, the sheets are added to the bottom of the delivery pile by first applying one edge of the sheet to the underside of the pile and then gradually moving successive portions of the sheet into contact therewith, whereby the sheet is added without relative sliding movement between the sheet and the pile. In one form, the pile 26 is supported on a series of rollers 12 moved as a whole beneath it, the sheet 28 to be added being projected from below, between adjacent rollers, and spread along the underside of the pile by the movement of the rollers. The rollers 12, Fig. 2, are rotatably mounted on spindles 10 carried by endless chains rotated from a mainshaft 6, Fig. 3, the spindles 10 also carrying supporting rollers 13 running in guide-grooves in the side frames 2, 3. Fixed to one end of each roller 12 is a sprocket-wheel 14 with a pitch-circle equal in diameter to the roller and engaging an endless-rack 15. The sheet 28 is delivered laterally on to a table 17 beneath the upper run of the rollers 12 and is thereafter moved by a reciprocating pusher 18 into a space 27 formed between a pair of rollers 12 by the omission of a roller, an inclined part 26 of the table facilitating this. The rollers raise the sheet to the bottom of the pile and by their rotary motion spread the sheet along the underside of the pile. The pusher 18 is fixed to a rod 19 reciprocated from a cam 25 on the shaft 6 through a lever 22. In a modified form, the rollers 12 are carried by a reciprocating- carriage, and the rod 19 is reciprocated from the carriage by an arm on the carriage engaging stops on the rod 19.
