Abstract

323,632. Hartstoff-Metall Akt.-Ges., and Kramer, E. Dec. 24, 1928. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Metal dust &c., ground in a mill 7, and liable to explode in air is prevented from passing through the bearings by pressure oil in the chamber 14 supplied by a pump 15 from the sump 22, the oil passing through sized grooves in the housing 2 to a disc 10 which catches the metal dust and throws it outwards as slime in the chamber 9, whence it dribbles through an oil-immersed hole 28 to the sump. A similar arrangement prevents entrance of air to the casing 7. A leather packing is also provided. The oil sump is partially divided by a wall 21.
