Abstract

323,356. Johnson, J. Y., (T. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Dec. 19, 1928. Fue!, feeding. - In an internal-combustion engine or other apparatus using powdered fuel, vent or de-aerating pipes, 9a, 10a, 11 or 17 are provided for the reservoirs 7, 8, 15, 16 and the conveyer 4 for the fuel, to allow escape of any gases which may pass from the combustion chamber through the engine &c. inlet valves for the dust. As shown to the left side of the Figure, the vent pipes may discharge to the fuel hopper 1, and the conveyer pipes and reservoir may be supplied with an artificial atmosphere of nitrogen or carbon dioxide. Part of this gas may be used to agitate the fuel in the hopper. The right side of the Figure shows the reservoir inlet valve slides 18 as band-controlled. The inlet to the air admission pipe 25 is outside the engine room.
