323,349. Kings Patent Agency, Ltd., (Rogers, A. W.). Dec. 13, 1928. Wedge and like expanding-devices, and barb, toothed, and like holding-devices for socket fixings.-Hammer, pick, axe and other tool-heads are secured to the handle by a wedge 10 having one or more legs 12 which pass through the toolhead and are provided with split ends 15 adapted to be clenched under the tool-head. The legs may be formed integral with the wedge or may be connected by a. cross-bar which engages a longitudinal groove in the thick edge of the wedge. In a modification, the legs may be thinner and clenched over without being split. In a further modification, the wedge may have shoulders 22, Fig. 9, adapted to be engaged by heads 23 on the legs, one or more of which may be fitted. Cruciform wedges may be used. A wedge with integral legs may be made from an H-shaped stamping by doubling about the centre line of the cross-bar. The hole in the hammer &c. head may be tapered outwards and may be formed with one or more grooves to receive the legs.
