Abstract

Hammers.-In one or both outer sides of the claw or head of a hammer or other nail extracting tool is formed a recess 1, Figs. 1 or 2, with a tooth or teeth 6 on both faces 4, 5. The face 4 may be formed on a cam surface 10, Fig. 8, of a pivoted block 9 preferably pressed to engage the opposing serrated or plain face 5 by a spring 20. The faces may be parallel or inclined, as shown in Fig. 3, so as to grip nails of different sizes. The recess is arranged so that the axis of a nail being extracted makes an angle of 30‹ to 55‹ with the axis of the handle 14. In another modification, teeth 17, Fig. 9, are formed in the inner walls of the claws 2.
