322,453. Austin, Sir H. Aug. 4, 1928. Hook fastenings. - A fastening for the bonnet of a motor vehicle comprises a hook bolt G slidably mounted in a guide D secured to the bonnet C and adapted to engage a resiliently mounted roller a carried by a coil-spring c, the ends g of which are anchored in the side members of a box-like bracket e secured to the chassis A. The upper end of the bolt is adjustably screwed into a lug K secured by locknut T, the lug having pivoted thereto a handle member N forming one link Q of a toggLe, the other link R being pivoted in a recess S of the fixed guide. Raising handle N moves hook G downwards to release it from roller a. When the bonnet is closed, handle N is depressed, raising hook G, the common pivot of links Q, R passing over the dead-centre to retain the fastening under the resilient action of roller a on hook G.
