Abstract

Stocks; breech actions, drop-down barrel.- The stock is secured to the, barrel by upper and lower splints 13, 14 with gripping claws 3, a recess for the lock being provided in the stock to the left of line AB where the wood ends, and covered in at the sides by lock plates 8 with projections 5 to secure them in position. The lock plate 8 may be of wood, the rear metal part 12 being sunk in the wood and secured by screws 9, 10, 11. In a modification, the top and bottom splints may curve over partly to cover in the sides of the recess, the lock plates then being hinged to the lower splint. In the case of a pistol-grip stock a bore hole 7 through the handle receives the splint 14.
