Abstract

Alarms, high and low water.-A safety device for steam boiler installations comprises a pipe line leading from the steam space 12 of the boiler to the top wall 2 of the combustion chamber 1 and from thence to a cylinder 22 having a piston 23 adapted, when communication with the steam space 12 is established by the melting of a fusible plug inserted in the pipe line at its junction with the wall 2, to move upwaxdly and cut off the fuel or air supply to the furnace and at the same time sound an alarm. The cylinder 22 is provided with a pipe 26 connected to an alarm whistle which is sounded when the piston 23, on its upward movement, clears the inner end of the pipe 26.
