[Class 123 (ii)] [Also in Groups XII and XVIII] A fusible plug d in the outer tube a of a " field-tube " in a steam boiler, is adapted on melting, due to low water level in the drum b, to allow water &c. to blow through a casing , f to sound an alarm, operate fire-damper means or water supply through a relay. The plug nipple j is screwed to the tube with a left hand or bastard thread to prevent unauthorised replacement. Modified constructions of the lower end of the " field tube " are described. Specifications 462,393, 470,339 and 485,196 are referred to.
