Abstract

602,561. Fusible plugs for steam boilers &c. MILLS, G. H., and STONE, S. R. Oct. 29, 1945, No. 28564. [Class 123(ii)] A fusible plug, adapted to be screwthreaded into, say, the fire-box roof of a locomotive boiler, comprises a gun-metal &c. plug body 1 formed with a through passage 5 which terminates in an upwardly tapered throat 6 and a wide and deep end recess 7 both provided with a filling 12 of lead or other readily fusible material in which is embedded a substantially spherical core 10 of infusible material, e.g. a steel ball. The ball 10, which is lodged in the throat 6, has a diameter equal to or slightly greater than the minimum diameter of said throat.
