Abstract

320,808. Jones, T. P. Dec. 3, 1928. Garages.-A repository for cars is provided with an overbead bridge-like member having a plurality of means for suspending the cars therefrom and independent means for raising each car. The overhead member comprises a girder 5 supported at its ends by uprights 1, 2, and intermediately, if necessary, by an up:ight 11. The girder is also supported by an arched frame 7 and members 8, and carries slings or cradles 12 for the cars which are raised and lowered hy ropes 15 passing over guide pulleys on the girder to a counterweighted winch 17. Six cradles are shown, and the winch is provided with six drums 21 adapted to be clutched independently to a driving shaft 24, ratchets 28 preventing back running and providing locking means for the drums in suspending positions. The cradles are provided with inclined ramps 36 at their ends, with guiding rails 38 for the cars, and with positioning grooves 39 in their floors, and also with inclined bolsters 35 on their under surfaces, so that when lowered on a cambered road surface, they assume level positions. The cradles are prevented from rotation by guides 41 depending from the girder and engaging the side frames. More guides 9 may be provided, and they may be connected together by connectors 10 to cover an extended area.
