Abstract

349,078. Endless s chain elevators. COSTA, J. S. DA, 1201, Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, U.S.A. Feb. 20, 1930, No. 5697. [Class 78 (i).] An endless chain elevator specially adapted for parking cars in a garage has platforms supported on cantilever brackets on transverse rods mounted on the chains, the chains being arranged in two sets in a central well, the platforms being secured to alternative chains so that if a chain breaks the load is carried by the adjoining chain. The elevator shaft A is provided with a supporting and guiding frame B. The motor E drives through gearing F upper chain wheels 2, the chains being guided in the frame and passing over lower chain wheels 4. The platforms 21, Fig. 5, are mounted on a girder frame 9 having downwardly extending brackets 15 engaging transverse rods 18, 19 supported by the chains. Two sets of chains Y, Y\ Fig. 3, are used alternate platforms being supported by the chains Y and by the chains Y<1>, respectively, so that should one chain break the platforms will be supported by the other chain. The upper rods 18, Fig. 8, of each platform are secured to the links 3b of the supporting chains by flanged spacing blocks 25, cover-plates 27, and screws 28, and pass loosely through the links of the chains supporting the adjacent platform. The lower rods 19, Fig. 5, pass through slots 17 in the brackets 15 to permit passage over the chain wheels. The rods 18 have rollers 20 on their ends adapted to run in guide channels in the frame B. Platforms K are arranged in the frame B at each floor level.
