A vehicle parking elevator comprises a framework formed of a bottom section, a top section 46 and a variable number of intermediate sections 16 each equal in length to a multiple of the length of the links 17, 18 of a drive chain. Parking platforms 32 are suspended by hinge irons 31 from horizontal shafts 30 which form pivot pins for the chain links 17, 18 and also carry rollers 38 for engagement with guide tubes 36, see Fig. 4 (not shown). Spaced between the elements of the chain links 17, 18 are rollers 39 for engagement with an upper sprocket 49, 50 and a lower driven sprocket 24, 25, the bearing 22 of which is connected to a chain tensioning device. The chain links may be straight, Fig. 6 (not shown), and thus suitable for bottom section loading, as shown, or they may be U-shaped, Fig. 7 (not shown), and be suitable for intermediate section loading, Fig. 14 (not shown). The intermediate sections are braced by cross-bars 40, longitudinal beams 41, adjustable cross-stays 42, 43 and vertical posts 44, 45 and are connected to each other and the upper and lower sections by flanges 59, 60 and locating pins 15. The elevators can be arranged singly, Fig. 9, 13 (not shown), in pairs braced to one another, Fig. 10, 14 (not shown), or in two rows, Figs. 11, 12 (not shown), to form a block or building, the rows being staggered to permit entrance to one row to be made between the elevators of the other row.
