Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Packing for a rotary shaft comprises a ring g, engaged between a stationary seating e and a rotary ring i, which is pressed axially by a rubber ring j confined between the ring i and a ring k secured to the shaft. The rubber ring may be further compressed by a spring ring l. The ring g may be of white metal and may be segmental. The seating e and the ring i may be grooved, and the grooves may contain lubricant supplied through passages closed by screw plugs n. A supplementary packing f may be employed.
