Iron carbonyl.-In preparing iron carbonyl by the action of carbon monoxide upon iron, finely divided metallic copper is admixed with the iron to accelerate the reaction. Copper oxide may be added to iron oxide before reduction, and the reduction of the mixture be effected at a lower temperature than that used for iron oxide alone.
