Abstract
318,948. Mawdsley, J. H. St. H. June, 13, 1928. Systems for supplying consuming devices. - An arc welding arrangement comprises a dynamo having its armature winding connected to a commutator 11 and a pair of slip rings 12 and its commutator c o n - nected to the electrodes 13, 14, a transformer having its primary 15 connected to the slip rings and its secondary 16 in the welding circuit, and a switch 17 which opens the primary circuit of the. transformer when the arc is struck. If the reactance of the secondary 16 is insufficient an auxiliary reactance may be provided. The core has a reduced portion which is saturated when a small current passes through the secondary winding. In Fig. 1 the switch 17 is operated by a coil 18. In Fig. 2 the switch comprises a pivoted arm 19 carrying an armature 22 and is mounted on the transformer adjacent an air gap in the core so that it is operated by leakage flux. A balancing resistance 21 is provided. Specifications 208,268 and 231,984 are referred to.
