Abstract

318,706. Tijmstra, S. July 12, 1928. Mineral and tar oils, purifying.-Cracked and other hydrocarbon oils are desulphurized by treating with alkaline plumbite, separating, preferably washing with water, and then treating with an aqueous solution of polysulphide advantageously at 80-90‹ F. Sodium di- or trisulphide is preferred. As excess of polysulphide is not detrimental the process may be continuous'. Excess of sulphur in the treated oil may be removed by aqueous sodium or other alkali sulphide or a lower polysulphide, preferably at about 200‹ F.
