Abstract
318,086. Porter, Inc., H. K., (Assignees of Porter, H. W.). July 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Divided on 315,341. Shears.-A cutting tool has a pair of cutting jaws 1, 2, pivoted together at 3 to swing in different parallel planes, the cutting edges being curved convexly to form a constant cutting angle, say 7¢‹, throughout their length. The arms 4 of the jaws 1, 2, are operated by a compound lever mechanism so that a cut may be made with uniform pressure on the handles 15. The latter, pivoted at 11, are connected to the arms 4 by links 17. A screw 21 screwed into each link 17 and bearing on a handle 15 and a screw 23 screwed into a lug 25 in each handle 15 and a bearing against a projection 27 on each link 17 permits setting of the cutting edges after re-sharpening. A method of plotting out a curve for the cutting edges is described.
