Abstract

317,604. Pratt, N. F. July 11, 1928. Heating and cooling appliances; specula and other dilating instruments.-An anorectal dilator comprises a non-expansible member interposed between an expansible member and a protective covering which encloses said members. In one form, Fig. 1, a bag 8 of non-expansible material encloses an ex. pansible soft rubber bag 7 and is enclosed in a soft rubber bag 9. The bags 7, 9 are secured upon a firm rubber core 1 having a channel 2 with apertures 3, 4 at each end and a valve 5 and a one-way valve 12 at the outer end to which the tube 5<a> of an inflation bulb 6 is attached. When the device is to be removed the valve 5 is opened to allow of deflation. In a modification, Fig. 5, the hollow core 16 has an inner tube 17 extending to the bulb 18, the core 16 communicating with a valve 20 through which the fluid flows or exhausts from the device. Air, water, or other fluid, heated or cooled, may be employed in the dilator.
