This invention relates to a machine for eX- panding automobile tires from the flat pulley band form to the normal tire shape and is an improvement over the device disclosed in my Patent No. 1,507 ,563, granted September.
It is the object of this invention to provide a new and efficient means for forming a seat between the pulley band and the apparatus for expanding the pulley band.
Without intending to limit my invention more than is required by the prior art and with the disclosed embodiment in mind, it consists broadly in providing a pulley band v5.' machine with tubular eXpansible rings positioned at the sides of the casing of the machine, which tubes may be expanded to admitthe pulley band into the machine by introducing air under pressure within the tube, re-
- duction of the air pressure allowing the tubes to vcontract so as to contact with the pull-ey band and `form an airtight seal therewith.
A clear understanding of my invention may be had from the following detailed description and` accompanying drawings in which:

In order to admit the pulley band 1 to the casing 3 the circular tubes 4' may be ez;- panded by introducing air under pressure therein Jfrom the pipe system 9 leading to a suitable source ot pressure. The pipe system 9 is connected to the tubes through the flexible tube 10, the purpose orn which will later appear.
The casing is supported upon the pedestal 11 which also serves as a table upon which the lower edge of the pulley band 1 may rest when irst inserted in the machine.
Suction is applied to the casing 3 through the pine system 12 from any suitable source.
In order to permit the removal of the tire after it has been shaped, the upper end wall 4 is hingedly mounted as indicated at 13 on the side wall 3. A weighted system of levers 14, pivoted to the pedestal 11 as at 15 and to the upper side wall 4las at 16, facilitates lifting of the lid i of the evacuating bex and removal of the shaped tire. rlhe flexible tube 10 connecting the pipe system 9 with the tubes 'l' permits the 'rotation of the upper end wall a with respect to the casing.
In the operation of the machine pressure is applied through the pipe system 9 and tubes 10 to the circular tubes .7 thereby eX- panding them to a position such that the pulleyv band 1' may be more readily inserted within thecasing or boX 2. The pressure act-ingin tubes -7 is then released so that these tubes under their natural elasticity contract so as-to Contact with the pulley band 1 and forma seal therewith.4 Suction is then applied to the interior of the casing or box 3 through the pipe 12 to draw the pulley band from the `liat shape shown in full 'lines in Fig. 1 to Vthe shape shown in dotted lines in 9* the same ligure.` As the pulley band changes shape under the action of the atmospheric pressure the contact between the pulley band and the tubes 7 serves as a seal during the initial changes in shape and the edges of opening' 6 Contact with the pulley band-to form a seal during the last's'tages of the shaping operation.
