527,924. Moulding hosiery-display forms from celluloid &c. SHOE FORM CO., Inc. April 14, 1939, No. 11290. Convention date, April 15, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] A mould for moulding hosiery display forms by expanding tubes 40 of thermoplastic material such as celluloid comprises half sections 21, 22 adapted to be clamped together and having inner and outer walls 25, 26 enclosing compartments 28 into which steam or water can be introduced for heating or cooling. The sections comprise curved flanges 27 adapted to secure one end of the celluloid tube around a nozzle 32 on a pipe 33. The other end of the tube 40 is adapted to lie in recesses 35 in the sections 21, 22 which thus engage and close that end. In use, one end of the tube is softened by hot water and forced on the nozzle. The tube is softened by steam through the pipe 33 and laid in the mould which is closed. Steam is introduced in the compartments 28 and in the tube, whereafter the tube is cooled by cool air internally and by water in the compartments 28. The cool air is introduced at greater pressure than the steam to expand the tube fully into contact with the mould. During heating, the mould is held so that the material flows down to strengthen the heel portion. The ends 41, 42 of the form are finally trimmed.
