Abstract

399,197. Moulding face-masks &c. SADD, J. A., Chemical Defence Experimental Station, Porton, Wiltshire. March 24, 1932, No. 8867. [Class 87 (ii).] Face-pieces for gas masks or respirators are made by coating rubber or rubber composition on to a core of suitable shape and vulcanizing the material of the coating while exposed on the core. The face-piece may be shaped on the core by dies b, the coated core being removed from the die prior to vulcanization. The core a may be shaped to form two face-pieces back to back. The core may be of aluminium silicon alloy and the dies may be of cast-iron. The dies may be provided with heating and cooling means and may be dressed with soft soap to facilitate stripping. Stripping may also be assisted by forcing air or liquid under pressure through passages formed in the die and opening into the moulding surface.
