Abstract

317,520. Pullin, C. G., and Groom, S. L. May 18, 1928 Fluid-pressure. - In a hydraulic brake mechanism particularly for motor vehicles the piston is provided with grooves 21 adapted to register successively as the piston moves inwards with a groove 23 in the cylinder supplied with the pressure fluid from a container 14. A V-section packing washer 25 , is retained against fhe end of the piston 4 and expanded radially into contact with the cylinder walls by lock nuts 27, screwed on a reduced part of the piston. The piston 4 is operated by a foot-pedal 29 and against the pressure face ot the piston a cup leather 6 is retained by a spring 8 held in place by a screw cap 9. The container 14 also supplies the power cylinder and hydraulic transmission. The fluid in the container is maintained under the pressure of a spring-pressed piston 18 and is provided with an indicator 19 and a replenishing nipple 20. A passage 10 is connected to the rear brake of a motor-cycle and a sidecar brake and the passage 11 is connected to the front brake 12. These passages are connected to the brake cylinders 33 between two oppositely acting pistons 32 having cup leathers 36 held against them by a spring 35 between them. The anchor plate carrying the cylinders may have a swivel joint as described in Specification 313,287. Spherically ended rods 40 engage between the pistons and the brake bands. Sealing grooves may be provided in these portions and they may be of different diameter to give a different pressure on the ends of the bands. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 301,605, [Class 122 (i), Engine and like cylinders &c.].
