Abstract

483,559. Internal shoe brakes. SAUZEDDE, C., and DETROIT HYDROSTATIC BRAKE CORPORATION. Oct. 16, 1936 No. 28171. [Class 103 (i)] A wheel brake wherein a number of shoes 9 are moved radially to engage surfaces formed on the wheel body 6 by radially moving fluidpressure operated pistons 16 comprises a spider 4 secured to a stub-axle 1 which, as shown for a vehicle steering wheel, is pivoted to an axle 2. The cylinders each comprise a part 5 integral with the spider and a part 12 screwed into it, a flexible seal 14 in contact with the piston being secured between the parts. A return spring 19 abuts on the piston and the part 12. Pressure liquid is supplied to the cylinders by a passage 20 in the axle and passages 21, 22 in the spider. Each brake shoe unit comprises a pair of conical segmental shoes 9 connected by a web 11 bolted at 18 to the piston rod 17 and guided by a pair of arms 5a forming extensions of the part 5 of the cylinder. The conical face of the shoes engages the correspondingly shaped internal surface of the wheel body 6.
