Abstract
383,515. Fluid - pressure brakes. HOLMBERGS MEK. VERKSTADS AKTIEBOLAG, C., Lund, Sweden. March 22, 1932, No. 8535. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 103 (i).] Hydraulic brakes operating front and rear wheel brakes for instance, comprise a number of systems having cylinders connected by an equalizing channel 8 which the brake pistons are able to close during braking, in order to obtain braking effect in one system in case of leakage in another. If it is necessary for the piston 3a to take up more slack and thus have a longer stroke fluid flows through the channel 8 and valve 10 to the cylinder 2b. If the piston 3b takes up more slack fluid flows in the reverse direction through the valve 9. If there is considerable leakage in one cylinder the pistons move past the ends of the equalizing channel and close it. The brakes are operated through valves 5a, 5b and pipes 4a, 4b. Pistons 3a, 3b are operated by fluid-pressure pistons 14. In a modified form the apparatus is formed as a unit and the pistons 3a, 3b are operated by a single, double-acting, fluid-pressure piston. In a further unit arrangement the pistons 3a, 3b, Fig. 3, are coaxial and differential. When the pressures in the two chambers 21, 22 of the double-acting cylinder have equalized on charging, through a passage 24, the piston moves slightly to the left to cover this passage. The pressure in the chamber 21 is reduced to apply the brake.
