Abstract
382,241. Fluid - pressure brakes. MOHL, W., 42, Lange Laube, Hanover, Germany. May 26, 1932, No. 15021. Convention date, May 26, 1931. [Class 103 (i).] If the retardation of a vehicle due to the application of hydraulic brakes provided thereon is excessive, a flywheel driven by a wheel of the vehicle overruns this wheel thereby closing an inlet valve for the pressure liquid and permitting the outward movement of a plunger in a cylinder connected to the brake cylinders, thus diminishing the braking pressure. The flywheel 5 mounted on and driven by the hub 2 of a road wheel has cam surfaces 36 contacting with corresponding surfaces on a ring 13 capable of axial but not rotary movement with respect to the hub 2. A spring-controlled rod 16 abuts on the ring 13 through a ring 15. This rod is connected to a valve 25 in the supply pipe of the brake cylinder 26. A plunger 29 in a cylinder connected to the cylinder 26 is normally held in its inner position by a lever 30 under the action of a spring 28 of such strength that the pressure of the liquid alone is unable to move the plunger. If, however, on account of excessive retardation of the wheel, the flywheel 5 rotates relatively to the hub 2, the ring 13 and rod 16 are displaced laterally, the valve 25 is closed and the rod by engaging the lever 30 permits the plunger 29 to move outwards thus reducing the braking pressure. Locking of the wheels is thus prevented. A non-return valve 31 in a byepass around the valve 25 permits release of the brakes by the operator when the valve is closed.
