Abstract

454,854. Brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION, 105, West Adams Street, Chicago, U.S.A. April 4, 1935, No. 10476. Convention date, April 5, 1934. [Class 103 (i)] A chamber 3 between a hydraulic master cylinder 1 and the pipe lines 31 is connected with the reservoir by a check valve 21 adapted to open from the reservoir in order that liquid from the reservoir may relieve the vacuum formed in the pipe lines when the brake is released. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a master cylinder operated by a mechanical servo comprising a disc on the vehicle driving shaft adapted to be engaged with the casing and with a disc carrying two cams which operate the master piston, in either direction of rotation of the driving shaft by a link supported by a link pivoted on the casing. The pipe line is connected to a cylinder having a piston connected to the brake pedal and adapted to give a reaction on the driver's foot through a telescopic spring connecting rod which yields at a certain pressure in order that additional foot pressure will not increase the braking pressure above the predetermined limit. An internal brake is shown in which the shoes engage an anchor by links which at the other end engage studs on the shoes and intermediately are clamped to the shoe by a bolt passing through oversize openings in the shoe. In a modified servo device a disc is moved against a revolving disc by a face cam arrangement comprising a ball between conical notches in a stationary disc and a disc rotated by hand. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
