Abstract

315,464. Redfern, G. A., (Soc. Italiana E. Breda). April 13, 1928. Machine guns.-Relates to machine guns in which the barrel recoils with the breech-block, but the recoil of the breech-block is amplified by a lever to open the breech. The invention consists mainly in that the amplifying lever 25 is located in the upper part of the breech casing and is bifurcated to act on both sides of the head of the breechblock 17. The barrel 12 is screwed to a barrel extension 13, which slides in the breech casing and carries the transverse sliding locking-bolt 14, which is arranged to act symmetrically on both sides of the breech-block and is moved in and out of locking position by inclined grooves in the breech casing. The amplifying-lever 25 is pivoted to the breech casing at 25<a> and is rocked by a projection 27 on the barrel extension when this recoils. When the breech is open, as shown, the amplifying lever is locked by a spring catch 28, which is wedged up by the breech-block on its return movement to release the amplifying lever and allow its forward return with the breechblock. The recoil of the breech-block is transmitted by a post 20 and an adjustable screw 21 to a pair of recoil springs 8a symmetrically disposed about the axial vertical plane of the breech mechanism. The recoil shock is also taken up by two axially disposed spring buffers 23, 24.
